ONE Simple Kitchen Hack for Better Health

ONE Simple Kitchen Hack for Better Health

Do you use cooking oil to make your delicious meals?

If so, what kind?

I ask because eating healthy fats is essential for maintaining good health.

But, the oil that you use for your stir-fry or roasted veggies can ruin your body.

How?

By consuming too much omega-6 fats.

In modern diets of humans, the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 can reach up to 1:20.

The ideal ratio, however, is close to 1:4.

While omega-3 is well known for its inflammation-regulating effects, various studies have shown that excessive intake of omega-6 causes heart disease, gastrointestinal disease, chronic inflammation, and cancer.

Omega 6 does this by 1) producing active substances that damage DNA, thus 2) increasing genotoxicity, and 3) inhibiting cardiolipin, which is involved in apoptosis.

So, how can we reduce the consumption of omega-6s?

The simplest way is to replace processed vegetable oil (corn oil, soybean oil, canola oil) with healthy fats such as pasture-raised butter, ghee, coconut oil, and olive oil.

From 1970 to 2014, consumption of animal-based saturated fatty acids – butter, lard, and tallow – decreased by 27%, while consumption of vegetable processed oils increased by 87%.

Just by switching up the cooking oil (or fats) in your kitchen, the risk of developing various diseases is lowered.

You can also consider increasing your intake of omega-3s.
